Have you ever walked into a room and felt a heavy energy hanging in the air? Perhaps the room looked bright and inviting, but something just felt off about it.
Chances are the room hadn’t been cleansed in a while — if ever!
Everything is made of energy: you, me, the chair you’re sitting in, and the device you’re using to read this post.
As humans, we both emit and receive energy from our surroundings. This means that the energy we are giving off can collect in the environment around us.
If we are filled with positivity and joy, our environment will likely have an uplifting feeling.
Likewise, if we experience negative emotions, we give off negative energy.
We’ve probably all been in a situation where two people around us were arguing. While the fight is occuring, you can easily feel the negativity coming off of the involved parties. It instantly dampens the mood and leaves an off-putting atmosphere in the room.
This is a perfect example of being able to sense the energy in your environment!
You want to surround yourself with positive energy, because the energy of your environment will impact your vibration.
Until you remove unwanted energy from a room, it will hang out and bring down the overall vibration of the environment.
If you get into a fight with your significant other, the negative energy from the fight will linger even after everything is resolved. This energy could then bring your vibration down, negatively influencing your mood and potentially causing another fight. That fight then adds more negative energy to your home and a downward spiral begins.
So what can you do to prevent this?
The answer is simple: spiritual cleansing.
What is spiritual cleansing?
Spiritual cleansing (sometimes called energetic cleansing) is simply breaking up and removing stale, negative, or unwanted energies from a room or object.
Even if you aren’t putting out negative energy frequently, energy can become stale and stagnant. This means that your spiritual vibration can stagnate as well. We don’t want that!
By removing unwanted or negative energy from a space, you are able to lighten the atmosphere and raise the vibration of the room once again.
Likewise, objects (especially things like crystals) can absorb loads of negative energy from their environment. If you don’t cleanse these items they can continue to cause negative energy to linger in the room, even after you do an overall cleanse of the area!
How often should you do a spiritual cleanse?
How often you should cleanse varies greatly based on your situation. If you’re in tune to your personal energy and the energy of the world around you then you’ll generally be able to tell if something is feeling “off”
My recommendation is to have a general cleansing schedule that you follow.
My cleansing schedule is as follows:
- Once a month I do a deep energetic cleanse of my entire home with multiple methods of cleansing
- Once a week I do a touch-up cleanse of the most used areas of my home. For me this is my bedroom and living room
- Every day I use a less intense spiritual cleansing spray to maintain the overall positive energy of my home
While this is what works for me, you might find that you don’t need to cleanse as often — or maybe you need to do it more frequently than I do! The rule of thumb that I follow is that if my environment feels off or heavy, I cleanse.
Some things you should consider when deciding whether or not you need to cleanse:
How often do you use the room or object?
Like I said before, I cleanse the most frequented areas of my home more often than the areas that aren’t as heavily inhabited. The more often you use a space, the more likely it is to be carrying your energy (both good and bad). This is why I cleanse crystals I carry with me frequently and my bedroom more often than the basement or my lesser-used divination items. They just don’t have the same amount of exposure to energy.
What is the environment like?
Has a significant energetic shift occurred recently? If a major conflict occurs in a room, you have guests who are emitting negative energy, or you are carrying a lot of heavy emotions, you need to cleanse your environment.
Likewise, if you channel negative feelings into an object as a way of release, you should give it a good energetic cleanse afterwards.
How does the room feel?
Last, but certainly not least, you should ask yourself what the energy of the room feels like. If it feels heavy, stagnant, or blah, it’s probably time for a spiritual cleanse.
Trust your instincts on this one. If it feels like the energy is off it probably is.
Spiritual cleansing is a major component of maintaining a happy and energetically balanced environment. Nobody should be skipping it!
