The chakra system is one of the most popular energy systems talked about in spiritual circles, for good reason. Knowing how to clear your chakras is an important part of keeping your energy healthy and balanced.
In this post I’ll share the importance of clearing your chakras and provide you with a simple yet effective method for doing so!
Why you need to clear your chakras
The chakras are one of the primary energy systems flowing in our body. There are seven primary chakras, and each is made up of many layers of energy. The idea is that the energy of the chakras influences our emotional, spiritual, and physical health. Clearing the chakras helps to keep us balanced and energetically healthy.
While deep rooted beliefs and behavioral or karmic patterns require intensive chakra healing to overcome, the upper layers of the chakras are mostly influenced by day-to-day life. These upper energy levels become muddied by energy you interact with or current behaviors you are engaging in. By frequently re-aligning the energy of each chakra, you are able to maintain balance in your energy system.
How to clear your chakras
Before we get into the specifics of chakra clearing, it’s important to have a basic understanding of the chakras. Each of the seven primary chakras has a color and location of the body that it is associated with.
From the bottom going up they are:
- Location: base of spine
- Color: red
- Location: navel
- Color: orange
Solar Plexus Chakra
- Location: six inches above the navel
- Color: yellow
- Location: chest
- Color: green
- Location: throat
- Color: blue
Third Eye Chakra
- Location: between the eyebrows
- Color: indigo
- Location: top of head and the space just above it
- Color: purple
These colors are just a guideline and may vary between individuals. Each chakra will generally stay within the same color category, but with slight variations.
For example, my heart chakra manifests as a mix of light pink and green that is beautiful but impossible to describe. I also visualize my third eye chakra as being purple, while my crown chakra is a brilliant white.
Allow your intuition to guide you while visualizing the chakras. Your intuition will never lead you astray.
How to Clear Your Chakras
First you’ll want to either lay down or sit in a comfortable position. I personally prefer to lay down, but whatever is most comfortable for you is best.
Next, take some deep, cleansing breaths. The idea here is to get you into a calm and centered head space. I usually take five deep breaths, but if you feel like you need more then do so.
Now that you’re in a relaxed state, it’s time to start the actual process of clearing your chakras. Visualize a beautiful, cleansing white light coming down from the universe, traveling into the top of your head, through your body, and out of your root chakra. Imagine that this light is coming directly from the source of the universe to cleanse and balance your energy system. It’s sole purpose is to balance and remove any negative energy from your system.
Continue to run this light through your root chakra until you intuitively feel that the chakra is completely cleared. Some chakras might be more blocked than others, and as a result it will take more time to thoroughly clear it.
For me, the light will typically become much brighter or suddenly feel as though it is flowing more freely once the chakra is completely cleared. However, it might be different for you. Just listen to your intuition, there’s no right or wrong way to do this!
Once you have finished with the root chakra, move up to the sacral chakra and repeat the process.
You are going to do this for all seven of the main chakras.
Once you finish clearing your crown chakra, focus your attention again on the root chakra.
Imagine a brilliant red light flowing freely from the chakra. Still visualizing the red light coming from the root chakra, next visualize the same type of light coming from the sacral chakra, only orange. Once again, continue this process until all seven of your chakras have a brilliant light that corresponds with their color flowing from them.
I like to hold this light for 5-10 seconds and then allow it to fade away.
Once you’ve done that, you’re finished! I highly recommend taking this time to ground, center, and shield yourself to complete the process. I’ve written a handy guide for that process here.
All said, from start to finish a typical chakra clearing session only takes between ten and fifteen minutes. It’s an easy but powerful way to ensure that your chakras are balanced and your energy is free-flowing throughout your body.
